Tom Goldsmith and Lydia Goodwin have spent the last two days at the Universal Infant Free School Meals Roadshow, meeting School Business Managers in Bristol and Brighton.
Tom tells us a little about what has happened so far:
It has been fascinating to listen to the wide variety of issues faced by school’s who are looking to get ready for the roll-out of universal infant free school meals (UIFSM) in September. We have learnt a great deal from speaking to School Business Managers, Governors and Headteachers who are anything but surprised by the lack of coherent practical advice from official bodies.
One School Business Manager in Bristol explained to me that Educate has “hit the nail on the head” with our range of support and bespoke services on offer to schools.
Schools understand the ‘what’ and ‘why’ of the implementation of universal free school meals, but are desperately seeking the ‘how’. How will schools practically deliver nutritious universal infant free school meals come September without a kitchen or without the capacity? How can schools prepare?
School Business Managers have been frustrated by the lack of support and advice given by local authorities. A catering advisor from a local authority in the south west expressed her disappointment that despite working as hard as possible to support schools they simply do not have enough capacity to help all schools. Importantly the council’s procurement team did not have the capacity to help schools either.
This is exactly where Educate can come in to support your school. Don’t worry if you missed us at Bristol or Brighton we will also be attending the Universal Infant Free School Meals Roadshow at a variety of location across the country in the coming month as well as another round of roadshows after the summer school holidays. We have experienced a lot of interest in both our consultancy support and our Catering Improvement Service at both the Brighton and Bristol events so if you are interested please get in touch as soon as possible.
